IATF eyes mass coronavirus testing at Cebu’s largest wet market

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Mana-gement of Emer-ging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) here has recommended the con-duct of mass swab testing at the Carbon Public Market, the biggest wet market in Cebu, as well as in other high-traffic areas in the city.
Lawyer Rey Gealon, spokesperson of the city government, said in a virtual press briefing on Thursday that the move is needed to assess whether there is serious transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in such areas.
The proposed mass testing among vendors in the market was raised following reports that the recent active cases here have history of visiting the said market.
Gealon recalled that the “binignit incident” during the Holy Week is one of the reasons why the IATF is eyeing a mass testing in the public market.
